Clint Eastwood
Hard man actor, director and former mayor of his adopted hometown Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.
I do not agree with his political thoughts, he represents the war mongers the Republicains.
As an actor I found him good playing the rough, tough cowboy in films such as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. He also gained fame as the detective Harry Callahan in the film Dirty Harry
His best film as a director was Million Dollar Baby, a film about female boxer. The film won him an Academy Award for the Best Director. The film itself won another three Oscars Best Picture, Best Atress (Hilary Swank) and Best Supporting Actor (Morgan Freeman)

Died on this Day:

Timothy Leary
Timothy being arrested, it happened twenty-nine times

An American psychologist and author most known for his experiments with psychedelic drugs, the God of LSD. His catch phrase was “Turn on, tune in, drop out”
In John and Yoko’s song Give Peace a Chance Timothy Leary is mentioned in one of the verses

Cycle ride of the day:

On my round today I stopped at a house called Blocksberg.
My bicyle, as you can see I'm always on my Cannondale,
it's easy to ride and I don't have to wear my racing shoes, they're uncomfortable.

Until now it was a house with a nice name that brought back memories: When my children were small we used to read to them from a series of booklets about the adventures of Bibi Blocksberg. She is a little girl who plays practical jokes with the help of magic. Every time I rode past it I told Heike I’d biked past Bibi on my tour.
The rail stataion and now guest house
The house as you can imagine has nothing to do with her. Blocksberg was built as a rail station when the tracks were laid in 1895. They were built to increase the popularity of the islands Föhr and Amrum, the islands have always lived in the shadow of the holiday island Sylt. Traveling time to Föhr or Amrum was shortened by an hour, it was much more comfortable than traveling from Niebüll to Dagebüll with the stagecoach and more passengers could be transported at one time.
In 1905 a dairy for the farms of the area (the Kooge) was built. The dairy products could be distributed faster to the nearby towns and coal could be transported to fire the steam engines with the train. In 1929 the dairy closed down.
In 1926 the narrow-gauge-tracks were replaced with normal-tracks, from then on the trains from Hamburg could travel direct to Dagebüll without the passengers having to change trains. The station Blocksberg closed down in 1992 and from then on is a guest house.
Greetings to Siggi and wife :-)
The rail line from Niebüll to Dagebüll is still running, I've never been on the train, that's one of the todoes on my bucket list.

Bye, see you all tomorrow. Have a good day

Photo of the Day:

A small hint where we spent our anniversary!

Event of the Day:

30th May 1889

The Brassiere was invented

Someone was thinking of mens eyes and thoughts when this was invented, The Brassiere
White, red, black, see through, hard, soft, pointed, pushups, half cups, full cups, lace, leather, rubber, cotton, synthetics, sports, strapless, maternity, padded, back opener, front opener, x-my-heart, now I'm running out of expressions for one and the same thing. They were invented to replace the corset in the late 19th century but first came into common usage in the thirties of the last century.

Todays Birthday:

30th May 1942

Lenny Davidson

Guitarist in the Dave Clark Five. They sang a couple of hits back in the early sixties such as Glad All Over and Bits And Pieces. I haven't heard from them since then.

Died on this Day:

30th May 1431

Joan of Arc

A French revolutionary and Saint. At nineteen she was burned at the stake.

Our Anniversary outing:

Waiting for the train to Sylt
As you all know, yesterday was our wedding anniversary, the thirty-fourth. We had a trip over to Sylt, once again, this time to Morsum.

Morsum station
A garage on Sylt is never used to keep the car in,
this ones a shop and manufacture.
The owner sells home sewn and home knitted things
Having money does not mean having good taste!
What an ugly roof?

There is a very good bakery cafe there that we wanted to visit, but first we paid our respects to cousin Peter who was buried in the Morsum graveyard only a few weeks ago. The have a nice little church in Morsum, it's named after Saint Martin (he is the saint who tore his cloak in two and gave one half to a pauper who was freezing on the roadside. See the photo it tells the story, I'm not too hot on bible stories.)

The entrance to Saint Martin's Church in  Morsum
Over the pews to the altar.
It's just a small church but very picturesque
Such a small church,
such a large organ
Here is the Saint Martin story in a wooden relief
Goodbye cousin Peter

Back to the cafe´, a normal cappuccino and a piece of maracuja cream cake for Heike and a large cappuccino and Friesen Torte for me. Friesen Torte is flaky pastry base covered with a half inch of plumb jam, topped with two and a half inches of stiffened cream and a flaky pastry top. It tastes a dream, one piece every blue moon is enough and the thirty-fourth anniversary doesn't come all that often.

We then jumped on the train again and rode to Westerland.

There was the first surfing contest of the year on the main beach. When we arrived there wasn't any action on the water, the wind was coming from the east and that means the surfing is a no go, either that or they have to go out a kilometer from the coast line to catch any wind. It didn't bother us , there was enough to see, the promenade was full. A lot more people than last weekend when the Harleys were here.

We had a nice stroll over the beach and all in all we had a great anniversary.
Want to see some more Sylt photos, say yes cause your caught I'll show you them anyway. Enjoy them and the comments.

An Auto Train
If you go to the isle of Sylt by car this is the way to get over the damm

This Auto Train is leaving Sylt

The Train to Westerland
Full with tourists, only standing room.

Car boot sale in Westerland.
Nothing like a normal car boot sale, here you can buy jam, knitted socks and a golden Rolex watch.
On Sylt they know how to exaggerate
One of the many five star hotels on the island
Need something for the doggy?
A golden, diamond studded collar, a porcelain eating dish or maybe a leather or mink vest?
Here's the place to find it.

Left over from the Harley Day's

The Westerland promenade
I like the idea, a cult Vespa truck with a very good espresso machine built on the loading platform
I had one of these back in 1975

Westerland beach
Westerland beach II
It's still too cold and the holidays start in July
Most of the tourists prefer the promenade
If I had bad taste and one of these, I'd spray it like this
Same sort of dinky toy but it looks boring
The other side of Sylt
Everyone thinks this is Sylt, but no the real Sylters are being forced to leave the island, it's too expensive
I saw this Mickey Mouse outside an art gallery, in the shade.
Guess why it's in the shade?
Cause it's made of Haribo gummi bears
and they melt in the sun
Another cool car, an Opel GT
A friend of mine had one in the seventies
Nice backside

Still life back in Niebüll

That's it for today. Bye
See you all again tomorrow. Have a nice day
