James Jamerson

 

 

Died at the age of forty-seven, due to the effects of year long alcohol abuse.

James was a bass guitar player and one of the unknown stars at Motown Records; playing as a sessions musician on most of the early Motown hits. He played on thirty #1 hits without being mentioned, such as: I Heard it Through the Grapevine (both hit recordings; the first by Gladys Knight and the Pips (in the video the song starts after three minutes) and second by the legendary late Marvin Gaye), Stop in the Name of Love and The Happening from the Supremes

 Nine is my time!
It's the weekend and I don't have to work. I woke up at about seven like I always do weekends, but I'm not ready for the day; so that means I've got time to relax and snooze until the toil of the day catches me. When Heike is at work on Saturdays that's no problem, today she's got the day off and wants to get up. If I'm out of luck she'll get up before eight and (without saying a word) lets me know I have to arise from my warm, dreamy mattress. That's cruel! Just five more minutes, then I'll get up; promise!
