My Daily Banana:

Photo of the Day:

My weekly followup of the Giant Rhubarb
(Mammutblatt Gunnera manicata )

Event of the Day:
4th June 1965
The Rolling Stones released Satisfaction

Ask anyone all around the world if they know a song that the Stones recorded and the answer will be Satisfaction.

And I still think the Beatles were better!!

Birthday of the Day:
4th June 1965
Michael “Mike” Doohan

He reigned the Grand Prix Racetrack in the 1990’s. No one could ride the motorcycle as fast as him, he was stopped only by injury and then Italian Valentino Rossi took over his position as the King of the Racetrack

Died on this Day:
4th June 1997
Ronnie Lane

Small Faces base guitarist, he was nicknames “Plonk”. Died at the early age of fifty-one after a twenty-one year long fight against multiple sclerosis.

The first number one chart buster from the Small Faces was released in 1965 All Or Nothing

Non cycle of the day:
I did go for a bicycle round today but I want to show you what my hometown looks like, so instead of another hay fever story here's a picture story of Niebüll:

Today I'm going to take you on a stroll through Niebüll. I needed to go to the chemist and thought it might interest you how my home town looks.
Every journey short or long starts with the first step
This is a view of the block of flats where we live.
Cycle-Pedestrian path into town.
Normally it's too narrow for a combination bicycle and pedestrian, it's a bind always looking back to see if I have to make room for a bicycle coming from behind.I expect it'sthe same all over the world bicycles hardly ever have bells and if you don't watch out they'll ride into your heels (that's figuratively said)

There's the first bicycles, they had bells and used them. Thanks Mädels!
The house was just completed a couple of months ago.
It has six apartments, not bad near the town centre, quiet side road without through traffic but the layout is bad (to get in the guest bedroom you have to go through the living
room) and there is no garden only terraces or balconies with access to the road.

Looking north on the main drag
There on th left you can see our local baker, they also sell coffee, I'll be back later
Not a very nice looking road, but every town has its ups and downs
And around the next corner the sun shines again
This is one of Niebülls nicest and quietest street,
A short cut, here I always hope no one will come from the other end, the path is very narrow
An example how a door can be turned into an entrance, (a Friesen Door) without spending big money.
 I like it,
 the people have got taste!

There's the Catholic Church in the background.
Here in the north of Germany the people are predominantly Protestant.
The chemist.
Are they expensive all around the world?
I had a prescription for three medications and still had to pay twenty-five Euros co-payment.
That's quite a large sum, but if I split it up in daily doses it's just twenty-five Cents a day and that's okay.

I now have what I came for,
so it's back to the backer's
It's coffee time
The narrow path, this time looking towards the main road
North looking towards the market and town square
South, looking towards the bakery
The Bakery.
It's nice to sit here and watch the world drift by
A German baker.
With cake, bread, rolls and a coffee machine.
And here's Elke
That's what I came for, a cappuccino and a raisin roll.
Simple things can be delicious and appeasing.
Cappuccino is drunk, raisin roll eaten, it's time to get back home,
I still have my bicycle round waiting.
Past the Hidden Garden,
the green paradise!
Poppies

Wild dog roses
(Heckenrosen Rosa canina)

Aldi is being revamped
Niebüll's busiest junction,
it's 16:30, in Niebüll rush-hour
Lidl
They are overcrouded because of Aldi being closed

Here's where the fire brigade is stationed.
In Niebüll the fire brigade is manned with volunteers.
The town is too small for a fulltime station
Home
The building is called "Kronenburg"
As the story goes; when it was built in 1989 the owner, who has a supermarket on the Danish-German border, paid for the building with Danish Kronen, the money he earned under the hand.
It's just a story but amusing and behind every story there's a spark of truth!
That's where we live.
On the first floor, behind the open window on the right I'm sat at the moment writing this blog.

That all for today, hope you enjoyed my little stroll.
See you all tomorrow :-)
