Event of the Day:

5th June 1876
Bananas were imported and shown for the first time at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. They were wrapped in tin foil and sold for a dim 10 cents apiece. The Americans were so amazed by the fruit, that they flocked to view them, there were more spectators to see the bananas than to see Alexander Graham Bell’s new invention the telephone.

Meal of the Day:
Yesterday evening we, the colleagues from the office where I work in Flensburg, were invited by Henning, also a colleague, for a meal to celebrate his up-coming retirement.

Henning.

It was in the Landgasthaus Neukrug, Maasbüll, about fifteen kilometres south-east from Flensburg, that’s about sixty from Niebüll.
I took the day off work to save myself travelling back and forth twice. I have to be careful not to drive too many private kilometres with my car,. It has to do with the German tax laws, my car is registered as a company car and they allow me ten percent private use.

In the afternoon I drove to Flensburg and four of us went in Petra’s car to the restaurant.

Petra, sehe ich zum ersten mal im Rock.

It was an old Gasthaus from 1752 very nice and a good menu, they even had a whole side of vegetarian meals. I don’t find that everywhere and because of this it is very seldom, that I go out for a meal.

Like usual I put my foot in, I ordered an alcoholic free beer and after a couple of swigs my head was spinning. There is still up to two percent alcohol in alcohol free beer, I thought I could handle it but it’s been so long since I last drank anything it went straight to my head. Thank heavens I’m not an alcoholic, I didn’t finish the beer I gave it back and ordered fizzy water.
Otherwise it was a very harmonic gathering. Very unusual for a workmate gathering, we didn’t mention or miss the work once.
Thanks Henning, I had a great evening, I was very tired when I arrived home, but it was worth it.
