My Daily Banana

Photo of the day:

The first photo of the day that's not from me,
but with me, capturing Sarah's lovely smile.

Giant Rhubarb:

The Giant Rhubarb is growing strong, it's about six foot high.
I hope it gets bushy.

Event
28th May 1987
Mathias Rust lands on the Red Square

in Moscow with a private airplane. He was doing a training flight, one that is needed for the flight license. The training flight was supposed to be over home country, Germany, but some camel scratched his back and he flew to Moscow, Soviet Union. His reason, or so he says is the world peace. For this brave but idiotic feat he was detained for the next fourteen months.

Birthday:
28th May 1928
Giesela Schnier, maiden name Winter

My mother in law. As I remember her she was a very peaceful woman. I never saw her in a fret or get angry. Her life was work, hubby and the kids. It must have been very lonely for her when the children left home and Fritz died in 1987. She outlived him by eight years and passed away in August 1995.

Giesela was married to Friedrich Schnier (I wrote about him a couple of weeks ago on the 2nd May to be precise) and bore five children, Knuth, Edith, Peter, Heike and the nest chick Edeltraut. To begin with they lived in a two bedroom apartment until Fritz built a house in Bargenstedt, where they had the luxury of three bedrooms. One for the parents, one for the boys and one for the girls. Enough for those days, now it's much different if the kids don't have a bedroom on their own it's as if they live in poverty.

Died:
28th May 1977
King Edward VIII

Former King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He was king for just over three-hundred days and was forced to give up the crown because of loving the wrong woman. Wallie Simpson, she was American, had been married twice, divorced once and was awaiting the second divorce to come through. That was too much for the parliament and the church. Edward being king was also the head of the Church of England and the religion did not agree with people remarrying when their former spouse was still alive.

Ride of the Day:
It's windy here in good old Germany. The trip took a little longer than in the past two weeks, I enjoyed it though. I'm repeating myself when I say "I like riding when the wind is blowing", up to nine Beaufort I have no real problems riding against head-on wind, the bicycle has between twenty and thirty gear ratios, from hard to very easy. I have used very easy only once and that was to climb a sixteen degree hill and that was no problem. The only think about wind that's not too nice is when it comes from the side and tries to throw me off the road. It's alright as long as there is no traffic then I have to keep a straight path which can be tricky. No need to philosophy on that now though, the storm winds come in autumn and that's months away.
I keep meeting new friends on my round

I don't know why the beehives are still next to the rape field,
the blossom is wilted

That's all for today, have a nice one. Greetings to all in England, now I've got two sisters there (well for a short time)
