Event of the Day:
30th May 1889
The Brassiere was invented
The Brassiere was invented
Someone was thinking of mens eyes and thoughts when this was invented, The Brassiere
White, red, black, see through, hard, soft, pointed, pushups, half cups, full cups, lace, leather, rubber, cotton, synthetics, sports, strapless, maternity, padded, back opener, front opener, x-my-heart, now I'm running out of expressions for one and the same thing. They were invented to replace the corset in the late 19th century but first came into common usage in the thirties of the last century.
Todays Birthday:
30th May 1942
Lenny Davidson
Guitarist in the Dave Clark Five. They sang a couple of hits back in the early sixties such as Glad All Over and Bits And Pieces. I haven't heard from them since then.
Died on this Day:
30th May 1431
Joan of Arc
A French revolutionary and Saint. At nineteen she was burned at the stake.
Our Anniversary outing:
As you all know, yesterday was our wedding anniversary, the thirty-fourth. We had a trip over to Sylt, once again, this time to Morsum.

A garage on Sylt is never used to keep the car in, this ones a shop and manufacture. The owner sells home sewn and home knitted things |

Having money does not mean having good taste! What an ugly roof? |
There is a very good bakery cafe there that we wanted to visit, but first we paid our respects to cousin Peter who was buried in the Morsum graveyard only a few weeks ago. The have a nice little church in Morsum, it's named after Saint Martin (he is the saint who tore his cloak in two and gave one half to a pauper who was freezing on the roadside. See the photo it tells the story, I'm not too hot on bible stories.)

Over the pews to the altar. It's just a small church but very picturesque |

Such a small church, such a large organ |

Goodbye cousin Peter |
Back to the cafe´, a normal cappuccino and a piece of maracuja cream cake for Heike and a large cappuccino and Friesen Torte for me. Friesen Torte is flaky pastry base covered with a half inch of plumb jam, topped with two and a half inches of stiffened cream and a flaky pastry top. It tastes a dream, one piece every blue moon is enough and the thirty-fourth anniversary doesn't come all that often.
We then jumped on the train again and rode to Westerland.
There was the first surfing contest of the year on the main beach. When we arrived there wasn't any action on the water, the wind was coming from the east and that means the surfing is a no go, either that or they have to go out a kilometer from the coast line to catch any wind. It didn't bother us , there was enough to see, the promenade was full. A lot more people than last weekend when the Harleys were here.
We had a nice stroll over the beach and all in all we had a great anniversary.

Car boot sale in Westerland. Nothing like a normal car boot sale, here you can buy jam, knitted socks and a golden Rolex watch. On Sylt they know how to exaggerate |

Need something for the doggy? A golden, diamond studded collar, a porcelain eating dish or maybe a leather or mink vest? Here's the place to find it. Koko von Knebel |

Everyone thinks this is Sylt, but no the real Sylters are being forced to leave the island, it's too expensive |

I saw this Mickey Mouse outside an art gallery, in the shade. Guess why it's in the shade? |
