My Daily Banana

Photo of the day:

A Lotus Elan from 1965. What a beautiful car

Word of the day:

transept

the two wings or arms of a cross shaped church,
projecting at right angles from the nave or main ship.
German: der Transept: die Querflügeln eine kreuzförmige Kirche

Name of the day:

Henry

males name from the Germanic "Heinrich" meaning "Home Ruler",
"Henry's the king of the castle,
and you’re the dirty rascal."

Birthday of the day:

25th April 1917

Ella Fitzgerald

in Newport News, Virginia, United States
Died 15th June 1996
in Beverly Hills, California, United States

American singer. An amazingly mellow voice, this lady had the blues. Her performance, together with Louie Armstrong, of George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" is one of the best interpretations of the musical that I have ever heard. The song "Summertime" was only topped by the late Janis Joplin.

Here’s Ella’s version of “Summertime”
and here’s Janis’s

Died on this day:

25th April 1995

Ginger Rogers

in Rancho Mirage, California, United States
Born 16th July 1911
in Independence, Missouri, United States

American actress, singer, and dancer.
Never forgotten her dancing with Fred Astaire in many dreamy Hollywood films.
A small thought: I could always tell when the actors fell in love, the take would get hazy (out of focus).

Event of the day:

25th. April 1953
Scientists James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, Rosalind Franklin and colleagues published papers on the structure of DNA.
The United States proclaimed the 25th April 2003 to be a one time national holiday to celebrate DNA Day.

Ride of the day:

The wind was back to about four Beaufort, not too much, just enough to get me sweating (oh, the smell:-()

While doing my round I noticed in Risum, that all the lamp posts had been bent away from the road. Well I thought some strong rascals had been having some fun testing their strength on the posts, but there were too many bent. So I had a wee think about it, Zapp und Blitz, I've got it. A Wind Farm is repowering, they are renewing the wind generators here and the overload lorries are too wide for the roads, so they made room by bending the lamp posts.

More again tomorrow, have a nice day, be happy:-)
