My Daily Banana

Photo of the day:
The Mammut Leaf this week, it's getting big
Detail of the growing parts
The flowers getting whiskers

Word of the day:
Pusillanimous
The state of being timid, afraid, cowardice (I wonder if the meaning of “being pussy” comes from pusillanimous? Gordon that’s a question for you)
German: ängstlich, feige

Name of the day:
Frank
In English, the name Frank means- Diminutive of Franklin: Free land-owner

Event of the day:
14th May 1939
The youngest mother in history:
In Ticrapo, Huancavelica, Peru
Lina Medina gave birth, by caesarean section to a healthy boy.
She was FIVE years old. (I’m struck dumb!)

Birthday of the day:
14th May 1943
Jack Bruce

in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland
Bass player of the legendary group The Cream.
Psychedelic Jack Bruce,
we thought colours and squiggly patterns were groovy at the time.
He played his SIX string bass guitar as if it was a lead guitar, he was the lead singer of the group.
Lead guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Backer. They played together in the sixties, with monumental hits such as “White Room”, “Strange Brew” and “Spoonful”.
Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton (from the left)
Here is “Strange Brew” it’s from the sixties on a German TV-Pop program called “Beat Club”. Eric Clapton acts as if he is singing the song (the video is full playback), in the group Jack Bruce was the lead singer
Now they sing live, the song “White Room” recorded at a gig in “The Royal Albert Hall”; a reunion in 2005. Jack’s voice hasn’t lost much of its fullness
and another song “Spoonful”

I loved the music and treasured their album Disraerli Gears. They couldn’t stay together very long because they were three alpha animals. Each one a leader and three leaders in one group; a no go! But at least we have their music.

Henry J Heinz
Henry J Heinz, the friend of every ketchup lover
Founder of the Heinz Company. Baked beans, ketchup, soup (I remember as a child, I must have been about five six years old, we lived in RAF Marham, Norfolkshire, England. We sometimes went on the bus to the nearest big city, Kings Lynn.; it must be about twenty kilometres from home. Well Kings Lynn had (or has, I wouldn’t know. That was fifty-six years ago) a Heinz manufacture. On the grounds was a great big tank, (I always imagined to store the soup) and it was painted like a can of Heinz’s soup.
A mongrel dog is often called a Heinz, because of the Heinz advertisement slogan “Heinz, 57 varieties”

A great singer left us on this day in 1998

Born 12 th December 1915

Is there anyone else who can interpret the song “My Way” as authentically as him? Say what you want about him, arrogant, gangster, it still won’t damage his music, Frank was one of the best.

Non Cycle ride of the day:
Today it’s back on the bicycle. Heike’s out for the afternoon with a friend, time for her to chatter and catch up with the Niebüller gossip. I’m not a very talkative person, I prefer putting my thoughts down on screen/paper.
Well that was a good thought, but I received an invitation from Heike, cappuccino and cake! How could I refuse, I’m just a week man?

The Niebüller Water Tower is being revamp;
it's going to be a public lavatory.
A new tourist attraction, at least it'll get a good number of visitors:-)

Bye, see you all tomorrow. Have a good day :-)
