Event of the Day:
1st June 1967
The Beatles release Sgt. Pepper’sLonely Hearts Club Band in the United States.
The album is a milestone in pop
music, it’s hard to say pop music because it isn’t your everyday pop but then I
can’t put it into any other category. Let’s say it is brilliant music!
Birthday of the Day:
1st June 1926
Marilyn Monroe
Born Norma Jeane Mortenson
She was pictured in the collage on
the Sgt Pepper’s album above Ringo in the fourth row. A beautiful
woman who died much too early. Bernie Taupin wrote a song (Candle in the Rain)which very
fittingly described her short life and the way the press reported her death, it
shows how much a life is worth to the tabloid.
Died on this Day:
1st June 1991
David Ruffin
The original voice of the Temptations.
He was the lead singer of the group from 1964 to 1967 when he had to leave the
group because of an acute cocaine addiction. He sang lead on the songs My Girl,I’m Losing You, I Could Never Love Another and many more soul chart busters.
Ride of the Day:
I went out on my Cannondale early,
Heike was at work and I thought, when I get back we can have a quiet afternoon and
a stroll to our favourite café.
Like usual when I have those simple
thoughts they are bound to be blown to smithereens. I got home after a grueling
thirty kilometres and Heike had arrived home from work with her plans for the
afternoon, or should I say our grandchildren’s plans. The monsters wanted to come around to play. Well after a quick shower
and a bellyful of bread and coffee I was ready for them.

Gretje's growing, she still has the foetal hold. How long does that stay? |

We are getting impatient, when are we going to the park? |
We went to a local playground, on
the way there Martje rode the walker bike, the way home was Fentje’s turn. I
knew this wouldn’t work out and I was right. Fentje was happy to let Martje
ride the bike to the playground but Martje also wanted to ride back home again.
Terror, I could have turned her up-side-down, inside-out and wrung her; all the
way home she bawled and had to be dragged because she refused to walk. If I
could have I would have carried her but she’s too heavy for me and I’m not a
camel. That’s why I love having grandchildren when they get tired and niggly
you give them back to their parents. Isn’t life a luxury?
